Celebration of the summer solstice on the night from June 23rd to 24th is the oldest and most beloved traditional holiday. It includes June 24th called “Jāņi”. Usually spent in the countryside with bonfire, a wreath of oak and meadow flowers, search for the fern flower, folk songs, beer and cheese with caraway seeds.

Important traditions

Search for the Fern flower – usually couples go to search for it. There is a belief that  if you find it, all your wishes will come true.

Jumping over the bonfire – jumping protects against the evil eye and diseases. Couples who jump over it and manage to hold each other’s hand, soon will have their wedding.
